Later in 1992, ICI PLC divested its majority shareholding to local management giving birth to ACI.
ACI introduced the concept of quality management system by being the first company in Bangladesh to obtain ISO 9001 certification in 1995. ACI has also adopted high standard environment management policy and again it is the first company in Bangladesh to obtain ISO 14001 certification on Environmental Management System.

ACI Agribusinesses Division combines a range of activities embracing all the factors that impact on productivity of the land and wellbeing of the farmers. Several subsidiary companies have been set up dealing with agri inputs like seed, farm mechanization, fertilizers, soil nutrients, pest control, marketing of agri outputs etc. The motto of this business unit is to improve land productivity by introducing good agronomic practices, capture the entire value chain of the agriculture in Bangladesh and provide solutions to all the needs of farmers. This Division has also developed a livestock business by providing animal feeds and medicines, artificial insemination, floating fish feed etc.
Over the years, ACI’s success in the agriculture sector have created bonds with and improved lives of countless hardworking farmers. But the delight of freshly harvested produce was being lost to the consumers because of poor logistics, and farmers suffered due to uncertainty about market conditions. This gap gave way to ACI’s “Seed to Shelf” mission, a key founding motive for its retail chain superstore outlet Shwapno. The story of fulfilling this dream began in 2008. Organized retail was still a new concept in Bangladesh, with customers relying almost completely on traditional channels like wet markets for their agricultural produce. Within 4 years, Shwapno took lead of the organized retail industry. With its 63 own outlets and 22 franchises in Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet and Comilla, it now holds 47% market share, offering the best value in the market by maximizing direct sourcing and contract production. This has created a win-win situation for the farmers as well as the consumers,Shwapno and e-commerce operators under ACI Logistic Division.
ACI is conscious of its role in fostering sustainable development. ACI is fully complaint with the environment and human rights issues. All its factories have elaborate safety and health policies to protect the workers. ACI takes pride in its transparent business operations and enjoys an excellent reputation as a tax compliant company. ACI considers itself as a partner in the development and progress of Bangladesh.
